Filming near campus of Auburn University leaves 1 dead

The shooting took place a few hours after the students celebrated the Alabama State Football Team on Saturday night.

The Auburn City Police was the target of gunfire at approximately 2:24 am (3:24 pm ET) on West Magnolia Avenue, a popular artery with bars and restaurants and forming the northern campus boundary which is home to about 30,000 students.

According to a police press release, the agents "were already in the immediate vicinity of the call, dispersing a large crowd".

The university emergency alert system sent a tweet around 4 am to inform the students that there had been a shootout and warn them to stay away from the area .

A 20-year-old man from Tuskegee, 20 miles southwest of Auburn, was found dead at the scene, reportedly shot and wounded, police said.

Two men, aged 16 and 17, and a 19-year-old woman, all from neighboring Opelika, as well as a 21-year-old Auburn University student from Hilton Head, Caroline. South, were slaughtered.

The 16-year-old man was flown to a hospital in Columbus, Georgia, with serious injuries. The other victims were injured and were taken to an Opelika hospital, police said.

"Beforehand, information was obtained that an altercation would have occurred just prior to an exchange of shots resulting in injury," Auburn police said in the press release.
