The best way to prevent the virus is to get the flu shot. Although the vaccine is not 100% effective against the virus, it can prevent you from getting really sick. It can also prevent the spread to your most vulnerable friends and family – pregnant women, babies and the elderly.
Barnes-Jewish Hospital launched this week its free flu clinics. The vaccines will be available Saturday at the Siteman Cancer Center in South County and Sunday at the Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital. In North County, a clinic is scheduled for Oct. 14 at the Christian Hospital.
SSM Health will also run free flu clinics in the St. Louis area this weekend, including a driver-only version.
Anyone 9 years old and over can receive the vaccine from 8:00 am to noon Saturday at St. Mary's SSM Hospitals in Richmond Heights, St. Clare to Fenton, St. Joseph to Lake St. Louis, from DePaul to Bridgeton and the 711 Veterans Memorial Parkway Outpatient Center in St. Charles.
The Influenza Vaccine Clinic for people 6 months and older will be held at the SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital in the Ronald McDonald House parking lot at 3450 Park Ave. in St. Louis.
The St. Louis County Public Health Department will conduct two influenza immunization clinics on October 27 from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm at the John C. Murphy Community Health Center at 6121 North Hanley Road in Berkeley and Center. South County Community Health Center at 4580 South Lindbergh Blvd.
Influenza vaccines are also available daily at the county dispensaries and the North Central Community Health Center at 4000 Jennings Station Road in Pine Lawn.
