According to a study, hashtags, such as #hookah or #shisha, used on social networks encourage the use of narghile, despite its serious health risks.
Given the recent increase in smoking among youth and students, the team of researchers from Florida International University, the University of Miami, the Syrian Center for Studies on Tobacco and the University of Pittsburgh randomly selected 279 messages out of 11,517 messages tagged #hookah or #shisha over a four day period. -Only one post (0.4%) mentioned negative health effects associated with the use of narghile

. evidence suggests that narghile can lead to nicotine addiction and many other smoking-related diseases, such as cancer, cardiovascular disease and respiratory diseases.
The researchers also noted that 10% of all posts used the #HookahAddiction hashtag, signaling that nicotine addiction is not perceived as a health risk that would discourage potential users, but rather as ironically or as a "badge of honor".
The researchers commented that policymakers and others should explore approaches to reducing the number of promotional positions, for example, by creating campaigns to counteract the positive themes presented on social media. Read: Is the narghile less harmful than a cigarette?
"This study represents an important step in the identification of narghile-related topics on Instagram and demonstrates the interest of using the data from this social platform to complement and expand our understanding of the behaviors of health ", wrote the authors Ben Taleb et al. "These findings may inform the design of future tobacco control media campaigns aimed at counteracting the standardization of the use of hookah on social media."
