US Highway No. 6 closed as fires raged in Utah County

US Highway No. 6 is closed from the mouth of Spanish Fork Canyon to Helper as the Pole Creek and Bald Mountain fires burn in Utah and Juab counties.

Officials from the Utah Department of Transportation are asking people to use another route.

US Highway 89 is also closed between Highway 6 and the Sanpete County Line due to heavy smoke from fires.

The fires merged and burned at least 20,000 acres on Thursday night.

Two large fires burning near the border of Utah and Juab counties are merging, according to Utah's Lieutenant Governor Spencer Cox.

The Pole Creek and Bald Mountain fires are merging and converging on the city of Woodland Hills, Cox said in a tweet on Thursday night.

"It's a real emergency," said Cox. "Please consider all evacuation warnings, take no chances."

The Pole Creek fire is at least 20,000 acres, officials said. The fire of the Bald Mountains burned at least 5,000 acres.

Firefighters in the Salt Lake City area rallied to help Pole Creek Fire

Firefighters in Salt Lake City, Draper, West Valley and the Unified Fire Authority are traveling to Utah County to help fight the Pole Creek fire, which has quickly reached over 20,000 Thursday acres.

Each department sends a four-person team and an engine, according to a statement sent by email from the Salt Lake Fire Department.

"We hope to ease the pressure of firefighters already working hard on this fire," said fire captain Matt Taylor.

People evacuating horses because of the Pole Creek fire can bring them to the Eastern Forks Exhibition Center

The bald mountain fire, which burns north of Mount Nebo in southwestern Utah, reached 5,000 acres on Thursday, according to Utah fire officials.

The Rosecrest fire southwest of Herriman should be confined to 18 hours.

Firefighters expect the Rosecrest fire to be fully controlled by 6 pm, according to the United Fire Authority.

The fire broke out Wednesday afternoon, after a resident dug with a backhoe in the area hit a power box, officials said. Several areas near Rose Canyon, in southwestern Herriman, were evacuated due to the fire.

A crew of the hand and some engines will work on the hot spots inside the fire, said the fire officials.

The fire department of Santaquin City has posted a list of donations on Facebook that could be helpful to firefighters fighting in Utah County:

• baby wipes (for cleaning when there is no time for showering)
• diaper rash cream (for rubbing)
• powder (to rub)
• long socks (laundry is hard on the fire line)
• ChapStick
• lotion (personal size)
• water
• Gatorade
• non-perishable foods / snacks (high in calories)

"Mandi Southwick is our designated coordinator of donations and will accept donations to 664 N. 100 East," said the Santaquin Fire Department. "All donations will be shared with surrounding agencies that support firefighting efforts."

National Weather Service issues a red flag warning for most of Utah until Saturday

The Riggs and Lonely fires in southern Utah burn nearly 1,000 hectares in total

The Riggs fire burned 450 acres in Bryce Canyon National Park and the Dixie National Forest after lightning started the fire on August 25, officials said.

The lonely fire burned 523 acres and burns 1.5 miles north of the Riggs fire. Lightning set off the fire on September 6th.

The Bryce Canyon National Park Road is closed to traffic at Natural Bridge, south of Rainbow Point. The Riggs Spring Loop Trail and the Under-the-Rim Trail are both closed. However, Highway 63 and the roads leading to Bryce Canyon National Park remained open.

The Grandview Trail in the Dixie National Forest is closed from the junction of Willis Creek to Lower Podunk.

Rosecrest fire in Herriman at 50%

No homes are threatened and all restrictions were lifted after the Rosecrest fire in Herriman that forced closures and evacuations on Wednesday, officials said.

The fire is currently 50% contained and burned about 67 acres, according to a unified fire service tweet.

Fire broke out southwest of Herriman near Rose Canyon on Wednesday when a resident digging with a backhoe hit a power box, officials said.

Firefighters worked to extinguish the fire until about 9 pm. Wednesday and resumed at 7 o'clock on Thursday. Officials expect the fire to be completely contained at 8 pm
