On Friday, at 2:50 pm, the fire was under control, said Katherine Gault of Cal Fire's Santa Cruz Unit. Evacuation orders were lifted several hours after residents were evacuated from the area.

Officials of Cal Fire San Mateo-Santa Cruz unit announced shortly after 20 hours. on Friday, firefighters would work to contain the fire and clean up the area until Saturday and possibly Sunday.

Several tankers and helicopters have been sent to the scene to contain the flames, officials said.

The fire, which spread to a "moderate pace", resulted in the closure of roads in Bear Creek and Mayfair Roads.
