First alert: first snow and slush of the season expected Thursday

The winter may not have officially arrived yet, but it will not stop the snow from falling. We expect the first snow and possibly slush of the season to arrive on Thursday.

The worst effects of this storm are expected after the morning rush. The best chance to see the snow accumulating will be in the north and west neighborhoods of Philadelphia.

Nevertheless, most areas will see flakes with the exception of the New Jersey and Delaware coasts. Some cities could see bursts of heavy snow.

A first alert will come into effect on Thursday at 8 am and will last until 5 pm. for the entire region – except for southern Delaware and southern Jersey. It's for snow and ice. The first warning is then transformed into a threat of heavy rain for the entire region from 17h. at midnight.

Since the storm will start with fairly heavy forms of rain, snow and slush, it is possible that snow will stick, especially in our northernmost neighborhoods.

The chance to see an inch or more of snow is highest in the Lehigh Valley and the western parts of the suburbs of Pennsylvania. There is a moderate chance in the Philadelphia area.

Be careful when driving late in the morning and in the afternoon, when heavy precipitation may limit visibility.

In the evening, a warmer air will begin to invade our neighborhoods and any snow left on site will melt quickly.

One to two inches of rain could fall in some neighborhoods.

Prepare the first snow

Snowstorms in November can be tough – temperatures could change, which means the effects of the storm will also change.
