The circle of life continues for the beloved Disney musical.
Disney has released the first teaser of its long-awaited remake / CGI of "The Lion King", extending the circle of life of the beloved musical.
Released in 1994, "The Lion King" is a vague riff on "Hamlet" by William Shakespeare. The film follows the young lion cub Simba (Jonathan Taylor Thomas / Matthew Broderick) who is preparing to succeed his father, Mufasa (James Earl Jones), king of the lands of pride. After the killing of Mufasa by Scar, Simba's evil uncle, Scar (Jeremy Irons), he convinces Simba to flee. With the help of Timon jokers (Nathan Lane) and Pumbaa (Ernie Sabella), the little one grows up in exile and ends up coming back to challenge Scar and recover his throne at the request of his childhood friend, Nala ( Moira Kelly).
The "Lion King" is best remembered for his original songs, written by composer Elton John and lyricist Tim Rice, with a score by Hans Zimmer.
Directed by Jon Favreau, this new edition is the latest in a series of remakes of Disney's live action shots, which capitalize on recognizable properties and repackage them for the next generation. Favreau was very successful in 2016 with "The Jungle Book", which earned $ 966 million at the box office, making it the fifth most profitable film of this year. Disney will launch the remake of Dumbo, the live action of Tim Burton, in March 2019.
Jones returns to resume his role as Mufasa and his unique voice is a comforting presence in the first teaser. The rest of the cast includes Donald Glover in Simba, Beyonce in Nala, Chiwetel Ejiofor in Scar, Alfre Woodard in Simba Sarabi's mother, John Oliver in Zazu, John Kani in Rafiki, Florence Kasumba in Shenzi and Eric André in Azizi, and Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen as Timon and Pumbaa, respectively.
