Todd Phillips, the director of the upcoming Joker movie, which does not have a title yet, revealed a first look at the star Joaquin Phoenix, before becoming the infamous villain of Batman.
Phillips captioned the image with just "Arthur", obviously this iteration of the Joker's name before he took his mononym.
The film, directed by Todd Phillips, is an "exploration of a man ignored by society, which is not only a serious study of character, but also a broader warning." Scott Silver co-wrote the scenario with Phillips.
Robert De Niro is in talks to join the film, as a talk show host who helps drive the Phoenix character crazy and become the Prince of the clown's crime. According to insiders, the script is linked to De Deiro's De Deiro movie about a failing comedian (De Niro) who kidnaps a popular talk show host to make himself known. In this case, the roles would be reversed, De Niro playing the role of the host. Zazie Beetz and Marc Maron are also featured.
Warner Bros. pointed out that the Phoenix Joker photo will have no effect on his DC universe, in which Jared Leto is playing the Joker, most recently in "Suicide Squad". Warner Bros. also develops a standalone Joker movie that will work in the DC Universe and Star Leto.
The film Phoenix is scheduled to be released in cinemas on October 4, 2019.
