The most exciting project on Warner Bros's upcoming DC movie list is Joker, the original movie based on Batman's arch-villain who has no connection with the CUSD. Although little is known about the film, filming began in New York this week and official footage is hitting the Web. Moviegoers have already discovered Joaquin Phoenix's Joker in a clown makeup and director Todd Phillips has released the first look at Zazie Beetz's character. Completely separated from the continuity of the DCEU, Joker is part of what has been dubbed "Elseworlds" by fans. Rather than sticking to the controversy over Jared Leto's classic villain, this film will tell the origins of another Joker played by Joaquin Phoenix. The plot details are thin, but it is confirmed that the distribution also includes Zazie Beetz, Robert De Niro and Brett Cullen under the name of Thomas Wayne. In the case of Zazie Beetz, little is known about his character apart from the assumptions, but thanks to Todd Phillips, we now have an idea of what it looks like.
Director Todd Phillips has probably unveiled Zazie Beetz in costume on his Instagram, even though there is not much to say about the photo, honestly. Perhaps hoped, since Joaquin Phoenix's photo was not too special either, beyond the face painting. Beetz seems to be a fairly ordinary woman, even if she is a little curly. Rumor has it that she plays a single mother who becomes the Joker's obsession. Things do not usually work out well for people who are interested in the Joker, so it's probably not going to be good for Beetz's character, if that rumor is true.
It will not be the first time Zazie Beetz will play in a superhero movie. She has just appeared in Deadpool 2 Earlier this summer, Domino, an X-Force member who possessed the power of luck. Beetz was great in the role, having a lot of confidence and comical skills in Ryan Reynolds' follow-up. She was also a game for everything, like wearing a Deadpool torso as a backpack. It has also been proven on FX Atlanta facing Donald Glover, should Joker put his character in the world of stand-up.
Joker is going to be a kind of superhero movie completely different from dead Pool, of course. When the project was first announced, it was said to be a New York thriller in the vein of a film by Martin Scorsese, which is about as far from Deadpool as possible. Zazie Beetz is a very competent actor and will undoubtedly be a force to Joker is getting closer to its release date.
