In India, the first outbreak was reported in Ahmedabad in January 2017.
Five new cases of Zika virus were detected Sunday in Jaipur, bringing to 60 the total number of people infected, said an official of the Department of Health of Rajasthan.
The figures were published at the conclusion of an examination meeting chaired by Veenu Gupta, Secretary General of the Department of Medical Affairs and Health (ACS).
"Forty-five of the total 60 patients are in good health after treatment," said the official after the meeting, during which the necessary measures to contain the situation were discussed.
Most of the reported cases come from the Shastri Nagar region, where fogging activities and other anti-larval activities are underway to prevent the spread of the virus.
Until Saturday, a door-to-door survey in 76,000 households was conducted in Shastri Nagar and mosquito larvae were discovered and quarantined in nearly 64,000 households, the official said.
The state health department has also issued a notice for pregnant women staying outside the affected area not to go to Shastri Nagar.
The virus, transmitted by the mosquito aedes aegypti, causes fever, rashes, conjunctivitis, muscle and joint pains. It is harmful for pregnant women because it can result in microcephaly, a condition in which the head of a baby is significantly smaller than expected, in the newborn.
In India, the first outbreak was reported in Ahmedabad in January 2017 and the second in Krishnagiri district, Tamil Nadu, in July of that year. Both epidemics were controlled through intensive surveillance and vector management.
The disease is under the supervision of the Ministry of Health of the Union, although it is no longer a public health emergency of international concern upon notification of the WHO since November 18, 2016.
