Five people, including four students from a local high school who were waiting at a bus stop, were injured after being hit by a car on Tuesday morning in the Aspen Hill area.
The accident occurred just before 7 am near Wendy Lane and Georgia Ave. Some lanes in the area were blocked at the morning rush hour.
Some of those struck had serious injuries, officials said.
Paul Starks, a Montgomery County police spokesman, said an initial investigation had revealed that two cars – a blue Ford and a white Volkswagen – collided on Georgia Avenue, just south of the place where students were waiting at the bus stop. The white vehicle left the road and went to the sidewalk, hitting the students, Starks said.
A 25 year old Blue Blue driver was not injured. A 21-year-old man who was driving the white vehicle was injured, but the extent of his injuries was unknown.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
On Twitter, officials at John F. Kennedy High School wrote that students were "injured at a bus stop this morning after being hit by a vehicle."
"Please, keep our students in your thoughts this morning," he said.
