According to the National Weather Service, flash flood monitoring will be in effect from 11 am across Massachusetts until Thursday evening.
"The rain will grow across the region [Thursday] ahead of a cold front, "forecasters said." Precipitation will drastically fall sometimes this afternoon until tonight, with the risk of sudden floods. "Isolated thunderstorms are also possible.
The remnants of tropical storm Michael are expected to pass southeast of Nantucket on Friday morning, "bringing a permanent threat of flooding on the immediate south coast as well as gusty winds," forecasters said.
In the Boston area, Thursday morning will begin with light showers that will become stronger in the afternoons and evenings. The rain will be accompanied by clouds and fog, and it will be cooler than yesterday, with peaks in the 70s, forecasters said.
Flash flood monitoring will remain in effect until this evening for parts of northern Connecticut and Massachusetts, including Essex, Franklin, Hampden, Hampshire, Middlesex counties, Norfolk, Suffolk and Worcester.
"An approaching cold front is crossing the south of New England late today and tonight. The front will rely on the tropical moisture of tropical storm Michael, creating local showers, "said the weather service in a statement. "Medium to heavy rainfall is expected to average between 1 and 2 inches for the region, but larger amounts locally are expected, especially with any thunderstorm activity. Additional concern related to torrential precipitation on rough terrain. "
After the rainy night, there will be a possibility of showers on Friday morning, but then the clouds will gradually give way to some sun in the afternoon. It will be less humid and temperatures should remain almost stable in the 60s, forecasters said.
Friday night will be partly cloudy and cooler, with minimums in the mid-40s and weekend temperatures will be very similar to those of autumn.
On Saturday, the sky will be cloudy with a probability of 40 percent chance of showers, with peaks in the 50 degrees. Saturday evening should be partly cloudy, with minimums diving to 40 years. Sunday will be sunny, with peaks in the first 50 years, forecasters said.
