Rescuers in Mallorca are looking for a missing child

The search for missing persons as a result of sudden floods in Spain, Italy and France continues.

Ten people died in Majorca, Spain, including two British citizens. Three others are still missing, including a five-year-old child.

Elsewhere, torrential rains and floods have killed a number of people caught in their cars during floods.

Two people died in Sainte-Maxime, on the south coast of France, while a woman was found dead in Sardinia.

Search for a missing boy

The two British flood victims in Mallorca were named locally Anthony and Delia Green, two 70-year-old holidaymakers.

They were discovered in their taxi, which had been washed away by the waters near the tourist town of Sant Llorenç. The body of the taxi driver was discovered nearby.

More than 100 rescuers searched the night for the missing five-year-old boy. He would have been in a car with his mother, who is one of the victims.

His sister, who was also in the car, survived and was saved.

The other two missing persons are German nationals.

The local newspaper Diario de Mallorca reported that on Thursday morning, 323 people were looking for survivors – a combination of police, emergency responders and military personnel.

In France, the rise of the Garonne in Saint-Maxime resulted in five cars swept by the sea nearby.

On Thursday morning, the French television channel BFMTV announced that divers had discovered the vehicle in the water and announced two deaths.

The victims have not been identified, but would be two passengers of the same vehicle.

Saint-Maxime is located in the Var, where the local authorities have urged the population not to use the flooded roads and to shelter during heavy rains.

BFMTV said 210 mm of rain fell on Wednesday night, two months of normal rainfall. The search and rescue teams were forced to suspend their work during the night and resumed Thursday morning.

Regional Chief Jean-Luc Videlaine warned that the death toll could increase.

The bridge collapses in Sardinia

In Italy, the region of Cagliari, in Sardinia, was also hit by bad weather. A woman was found dead on Thursday.

She was reported missing Wednesday night after her car was caught in the flood trap.

The Italian news agency Ansa named her Tamara Maccario, aged 45, and said she and her family had left their homes near a river, fearing the imminent flood . The vehicle was taken away around midnight on Wednesday.
