A K-9 officer was shot dead in Florida on Sunday as authorities responded to a car hijacking suspect.
Fang, a 3-year-old German Shepherd, was working as a Bomb Detector and Dual-Use Patrol Dog for the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
The dog was approaching a suspect stealing while he was shot, officials said. The suspect was eventually caught by another K-9 and was arrested.
Fang, according to the sheriff's office, "has played a vital role in keeping everyone safe during special events and football matches and has captured some of the most dangerous criminals in our city."
"We will miss you, FANG," MPs wrote on Facebook, mourning the loss of Officer K-9. "You left but will not be forgotten."
