A good Samaritan who stopped on a highway to help a car that seemed blocked was hit and killed by another driver, who then took off in the victim's car.

Dhimitri Andoni, 22, of Clearwater, Fla., Was driving north on Interstate 275 in St. Petersburg, Florida, around 9 pm On Thursday, he noticed a car that had lost control and stopped in the middle of the highway, according to a police report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

Andoni stopped to help the people in the vehicle, who were able to leave shortly after Andoni 's arrival.

Returning to his 2015 Hyundai, Andoni was hit and killed by a 1996 Ford F-150 that was allegedly driven by Dana Thomas Byrd, 30, of St. Petersburg, according to the police report.

Byrd got out of his car, approached Andoni's body and found that the man was dead, according to the report. Byrd would then have driven into the Hyundai, leaving his truck and Andoni's body behind him. Later, he also abandoned Andoni's car on a parking lot of the Engineer in St. Petersburg.

The next day at approximately 12:30 ET, after Andoni's father had contacted the police about his missing son, the police found the F-150 and Andoni's body abandoned by Byrd.

Byrd was arrested later in the day and taken to Pinellas County Jail, where he was charged with stolen motor vehicle and leaving the scene of a fatal accident.

His bond is set at $ 105,000. We did not know if Byrd had a lawyer.
