Florida authorities say they have a major suspect in the death of a 2-year-old boy whose body was found Tuesday in the woods near St. Petersburg – the child's 21-year-old mother, Charisse Stinson.

Stinson reported that the boy had disappeared early Sunday, police said in Largo, Florida. After Stinson told the authorities that a man named "Antwan", who had dreadlocks and gold teeth, kidnapped Jordan after driving them Saturday night to the Tampa Bay area, an alert Amber was launched.

According to the authorities, Stinson said that the man eventually became violent. She lost consciousness after several blows to the face. She said that she woke up in a park and that her child was gone. The police published a sketch of the man to the public.

In a press conference on Wednesday morning, police officials described the mothers' initial testimony as "misleading."

"At first, there were parts of the story that the detectives thought might not be true," said Lt. Randall Chaney. "But at the same time, we are trying to find a child."

He said that the need to find the boy was their priority and they later learned that the man did not exist.

An arrest report states that Stinson told investigators that in a moment of frustration she had hit the child and hit him at a wall. He then started having seizures. The report says that she then left her body in the woods.

Authorities found the body Tuesday afternoon. Police said the injuries sustained by the child reflected the mother's admission.

"We believe that a murder is a murder charge," said Major Steven Slaughter. "Our goal is now a successful pursuit."

Stinson must make his first appearance Wednesday afternoon.
