Florida mother accused of murder after two-year-old boy whose disappearance prompted Amber Alert to be found dead

A 2-year-old boy who was the subject of an Amber Alert after his disappearance in Florida was found dead and his mother was charged with murder.

Jordan Belliveau's body was found in a wooded area five days after his mother claimed to have been abducted by a stranger who had given them a lift while they were walking at night in the town of Largo, said the police.

Cherisse Stinson was arrested on Tuesday night and faces a charge of first degree murder upon Jordan's death.

"The AMBER alert for Jordan Belliveau was canceled.Unfortunately, the child was found dead," said the Florida Police Department (FDLE) in a tweet.

Florida authorities searched ponds and other bodies of water earlier on Tuesday, a day after police issued an Amber alert.

Stinson, 21, told the police that she was walking with Jordan at about 9:30 pm. On Saturday, they were offered a lift by a man in a white Toyota Camry.

The woman told the police that she had an altercation with the man in the car and that she had been hit in the face, causing her to lose consciousness.

When she woke up early Sunday morning in a wooded area of ​​Largo Central Park, Stinson stated that she could not locate her son and that a man identified as "Antwan" had been seen for last time with him.

Police published a sketch of the man in the hope of finding the boy alive.

Police said on Monday they had recovered "bloody items" in the apartment where Stinson was living with Jordan.

Jordan's father had been arrested and charged in a domestic violence incident against the child's mother in July of this year, Slaughter said. The authorities spoke to Jordan's father and he reportedly cooperated with the police.
