A gunman killed two people at a yoga studio in Tallahassee, FL, on Friday night before killing himself, police said. No motivation for the shootings has been established.
But as bad as that situation was, a worse tragedy might have been warned to the quick actions of an unidentified man than the shooter. The unknown hero was pistol-whipped, but the momentary distraction caused the shooter to break off his attack and apparently commit suicide.
Police arrived at the scene around 5:30 pm ET, Tallahassee Police Chief Michael DeLeo said in a Facebook document posted on Facebook.
DeLeo confirmed that the suspect died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. No other suspects are believed to be involved in the incident.
"Obviously we're all very sad and in shock by the events that occurred," DeLeo said. "But it's important that you understand this evening."
The Tallahassee incident came to a close after a mass shooting at a Pittsburgh synagogue took 11 lives.
