CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) – While some kids are asking for the latest video game or action game at Christmas, five-year-old Aubrey Stoner wanted her heart to be repaired – and a "L.O.L. Surprise & # 39!; doll, of course.
Aubrey's wish was granted. On December 14, she will undergo an open heart surgery.
The cheerleader Flour Bluff was born with the anomaly of Ebstein and other heart defects.
"Three leaflets supposed to form a heart valve have come off a bit, and they do not work so effectively," said Aubrey's father, Adam Stoner.
Four years ago, after a scary stay at the hospital, doctors decided that Aubrey would eventually need a surgery.
"He just said that we will continue to monitor her, and when she is near school age, it will be the moment," said Suzanne Stoner.
After years of treatments, ultrasounds, drugs and consultations, Aubrey Stoner will travel to Minnesota in early December to undergo surgery.
"It's very scary to think of your five-year-old child who is having an open-heart operation," Suzanne said.
However, there is a problem: Aubrey and his parents will spend Christmas in a hospital, thousands of miles away from the older sisters of Aubrey, Ashley and Allison.
"I'm a little worried about what they'll do and make me stay asleep," said the five-year-old boy.
The Junior Hornet Junior cheerleader shows no signs of heart abnormality. Her parents happily said that she was able to lead a relatively normal life.
"She's a rider, you would not know when you look at her," Adam said.
Fortunately, the Stoners have received an early Christmas miracle: Aubrey 's medical expenses will be covered by a voucher. However, Stoners will have to pay for their travel and accommodation. so the Flour Bluff community saves them.
A GoFundMe was launched for Aubrey and a mother of his friend organized a fundraiser to help with expenses and other Stoners girls.
"It's amazing how much love we've been shown for our little girl and you know, some people do not even know her and they help, that's amazing," Suzanne said.
So, the Stoners may be separated for the holidays, but they plan to catch up by coming back from Minnesota with an even better reason to celebrate.
"A party!" Aubrey said when asked what she wanted after her operation.
"It's a Christmas blessing, you know, that we can have this surgery for her," said Suzanne.
