Flytrex brings food deliveries by drone to a golf course in North Dakota, marking the first time American golfers will be able to receive meals from the skies. The service is being launched in conjunction with Ease Drones and the King's Walk Course, and is built around a mobile app that golfers will use to order food.
Drone delivery concepts are not new – Amazon has patented a technology that could allow it to deliver goods by drone, and other companies, such as Domino, have tested the use of drones to distribute food products. . This technology is still rarely used by the general public, which makes the new Flytrex service remarkable.
To use it, King's Walk golfers will use the Flytrex Golf app to order a meal at the Eagle's Crest Bar & Grill, always on the green. The recipient will place the order, condition it and load it into a drone, which will send it and deliver it directly to the buyer.
The food will be thrown into a specific pickup area; the UAV flies over the client until it arrives, to which point it confirms via the application that it is ready to recover it. The drone will travel to the destination on a route without anyone doing it, a necessary safety measure.
Although drone deliveries have been approved by the Grand Forks Park District, the state must adhere to rules established by the FAA, including the removal of structures and persons not involved in the flight. This makes the golf course's appeal obvious – few people and even fewer structures are present.
