Despite social media and other reports, the Myrtle Beach Police stated that there was no shooting or active shooting on Broadway at the Beach on Wednesday night.

According to Capt. Joey Crosby, the officers responded to Broadway at the Beach for a big fight. During the fight, someone in the crowd referred to a gun that made people flee.

There is no evidence that gunshots were fired and this was not an active shooter situation, according to Crosby.

Dozens of people have posted a shootout on Broadway at the Beach on social media, police say.

Inder Gill was on Broadway at the Beach with his friends and family when the incident began. He was in a candy store when he saw people fleeing through the store. Gill dived behind a counter where a mother told her that her children had to stay on the ground and that there was a shootout.

"There was a lot of panic," he said. Later, Gill added, "I was just scared."

Gill said the greatest relief was when he joined his family and saw that everyone was fine.
