Football Gamecocks: Could Scarnecchia Play Against A & M?

For the matches against Texas A & M, it seemed like a quarterback would be on the table for South Carolina.

Jake Bentley has only completed 6 of 17 passes in the first period. Several were big missed potential winnings because the good receivers could not catch the balls they had in their hands. But there were some high passes, not to mention giving a chance of points with a disturbing interception of the red zone.

Michael Scarnecchia, the hero of last week's shootout win over Missouri. So, was there any consideration of inserting the fifth grade eldest?

"Not really," said Muschamp. "We had to sit down a bit to make decisions, a few balloons here and there. But other than that, Bentley put us in a winning situation. We must play better around him.

Bentley eventually rallied USC, scoring 16 points on the team's first two drives in the second half, but had a big fall and a penalty shorted the third goal of possession with USC losing three points. And it's with at least 100 yards of losses in the 26-23 loss.

This did not stop some players in the stadium from booing loudly at the beginning of the match, especially after the interception. It was a fade ball for a real first year catcher, ideally among the safer passes that a quarterback can do because it can be placed high and outside where only one catcher can get it.

Instead, Bentley placed the ball inside, directly in the hands of Charles Oliver, of Texas A & M.

Against a bad defense against Missouri a week earlier, Scarnecchia had 20 assists on 35 passes for a total of 249 yards and three touchdowns (with zero turnover). There was a feeling outside of the team that he should perhaps stay in that role for another week.

This feeling broke out before Bentley was stabilized and after the match, he explained how it was to hear.

"It's life," Bentley said. "It's really the way I've always been raised, it's that you can not worry about outside influences. Other people will try to come to you anyway, but you just have to focus on what you believe in and surround yourself with great people.

"It's disappointing to hear that from fans, but they just want to win too. And me too."
