Ford Motor President Retires from Saudi Conference

Ford Motor president Bill Ford has canceled a trip to the Middle East, which would have been held this month at a Saudi conference on investment, the company said Sunday, according to Reuters.

The cancellation of Ford's participation in the conference comes as the disappearance of Jamal Khashoggi, a Washington Post columnist last seen in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, has sparked a public outcry.

Reuters reported that Ford had not explained the reason for the cancellation of his trip nor indicated whether the disappearance of Khashoggi had played a role in the president's decision not to attend.

Ford did not immediately return a request for comment from The Hill.

Media such as The New York Times and Dara Khosrowshah, CEO of Uber, are among the other companies and business leaders who also said they would not attend the conference as planned.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin is expected to attend the event. White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow said Sunday in "Fox News Sunday" that Mnuchin is "for the moment" still scheduled to make his appearance.

Saudi Arabia has denied any involvement in the disappearance of Khashoggi, but Turkey and others have blamed the country.
