Forecast updated: strong storms tonight, flood warning in the ring

8:35 pm – Showers and stubborn storms continue in DC and north and west

Little has changed, except for the redevelopment of storms in the interior of the Beltway and D.C., with storms intensifying in the western suburbs and persisting in the northern suburbs. The latest Active Flood Alerts map (see below) adds a new one in Montgomery County, putting much of the DMV at risk later in the evening. With several reports of road closures and trees, caution must be exercised in flooded areas and nearby.

7:30 pm – Rain dissipated in the district, but heavy storms persist in the northern suburbs

The activity has decreased in DC and is pointing south, but heavy rains and lightning continue in many of our northern suburbs. Everyone should see things calm down after 8:30 or 9am but several areas, including where the rain has already begun to fall, remain under flood warning until the end of the evening (see map below). ).

18:45 – Many storms persist as flood warnings persist

We have many pockets of heavy rain and frequent lightning (although the lightning seems to have decreased a bit) in the D.C.-Baltimore area, except south of the ring road where things are quiet for the moment. Floods remain a serious concern for at least an hour or two, after which we should see the storms begin to decline. 18:00 – Flood Alert updated to prevent FLASH floods

Due to the intensity of rainfall over such a short period, the flood warning has been updated to a FLASH alert until 21:00. Up to two inches of rain have fallen during the last hour and an additional 1 to 3 inches are possible.

Remember to never drive on flooded roads and try to avoid roads near streams / streams during heavy rains.

Flood Alert for South Arlington, Alexandria and Fairfax County East Central has been expanded to cover the southeastern Montgomery County, northwestern Prince County George and North Arlington until 9:45 pm because of heavy storms.

These storms are slow locomotives and could discharge one to three inches of rain.

The radar shows many storms with torrential rains in the immediate area of ​​the detention center. These are slow, which could reduce heavy rains in a short time. As such, the national meteorological service has deployed a flash watch, published earlier for our western regions, on the rest of the region (except in southern Maryland). The watch is in effect until 23 hours.

Furthermore a flood alert was issued for southeastern Arlington County, eastern Fairfax County and Alexandria until 9:15 pm. Up to an inch of rain fell and another two to two inches might fall further.
