Former Alabama football coach Mike Dubose was hospitalized after accidentally shooting near Opp, Alabama on Monday.
According to the WSFA, the Covington Country sheriff's office said that Dubose was accidentally "shot once in the abdomen shortly before 2 pm Monday." He was taken to a hospital in Opp and transferred to another unspecified hospital by helicopter. The incident occurred in the country, but no other details regarding the accident were made available to the local media.
According to the sheriff's office, it is believed that Dubose's injuries are not life threatening.
Dubose coached Alabama from 1997 to 2000, winning the SEC championship in 1999. He also played for Crimson Tide under the direction of Bear Bryant. He has not been a college coach since he was a defensive line coach in Memphis from 2010 to 2011. In recent years, he has helped coach several high school teams in the region, including a race as a coach of linebackers at Opp High School.
