Lenny Dykstra, a longtime American League player, was charged Tuesday by a New Jersey grand jury, according to the Associated Press.

Dykstra faces three counts of third degree: possession of cocaine, possession of methamphetamine and terrorist threats. Dykstra had an Uber driver during the May incident, during which he allegedly carried a gun to the driver's head. Here's more, courtesy of the AP:

Dykstra claimed that the driver was threatened and attempted to kidnap him early in the morning of May 23, after Dykstra asked to change his destination. At a press conference a few weeks after the incident, Dykstra said the driver had locked the doors of the car and accelerated, and that he "literally feared for my life".

The driver told a different story. He reportedly told the police that Dykstra was holding a weapon in his head, but no weapons were found. Police said they found the drug among Dykstra's property.

Dykstra could be sentenced to 10 years in prison if convicted, according to Suzanne Russell Mail News. It's far from being his first clash with the law. Dykstra served more than a year in prison as of 2012, after arguing indisputably under charges including robbery.

Dykstra played 12 seasons with the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies. He posted 120 OPS + for his career and was three times All-Star. He was part of the champion team of the 1986 World Series of Mets.

Dykstra will be 56 in February.
