Former disgraced Ohio State aide Zach Smith owes no severance pay after being sacked in July, according to a school correspondence obtained by CBS Sports.
In a letter to Smith's attorney, Ohio State Attorney General Julie Vannatta described how Smith was employed under a fixed-term contract at the time of his dismissal.
Ohio State goes on to say in the letter to attorney Brad Koffel that the Ohio State Football Assistant's work contract for 2018-19 "has never been fully executed by l & # 39; university. " If the agreement had been fully executed, Smith would have always been dismissed "for cause".
"Therefore, the University's position is that Mr. Smith is not liable for any severance or redemption pay," the correspondence says.
Smith was dismissed on July 23 for allegedly violating a civil protection order made by his ex-wife Courtney Smith.
According to the agreement, Zach Smith was to pay $ 340,000 as of February 1, 2018 for a one-year contract. Smith also got six football season tickets and two basketball season tickets.
On February 14, Zach Smith accepted the futures contract "with a more complete and formal employment contract for additional terms of employment in the near future".
Five months later, he was fired.
