WESTPORT, MA – Former Senator Brian Joyce was found dead by his wife Thursday in his Westport home.
A spokesman for the Bristol County District Attorney's Office said the game was not suspected. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy in the coming days.
WFXT reports that Joyce was involved in a car accident on Thursday, but it is unclear whether the two incidents are connected.
Joyce, former Senator of Norfolk District, Bristol and Plymouth, was awaiting trial for corruption, racketeering, fraud, extortion and money laundering. The 104-page federal indictment alleges that the former Milton Democrat accepted a "flow of payments" for his influence or his action. According to the indictment, he also allegedly defrauded the IRS and laundered the payments he was receiving through a shell company.
