Former Southwest employee accuses society of "extreme racial discrimination"

A former Southwest ramp agent sued the company after stating that he had been falsely dismissed and subjected to "extreme racial discrimination".

Jamel Parker explains that in 2013, when he became a Southwest employee at Houston Hobby Airport, a colleague told him about a "white only" break room where black employees were not welcome.

"You hear stories of people going out there and people are fleeing them like what you do here," said Parker.

In the lawsuit filed Wednesday, Parker and his lawyers allege that the discrimination was widespread and included an incident in which a noose made from elastic ropes was built to intimidate black employees.

"Someone took this rope and created a noose and let it hang for people to see," Parker said.

Parker was fired in 2017 for allegedly damaging a power cord and did not report it. He says that other white employees have committed similar offenses and have only received light punishments.
