According to his lawyer, Brad Sohn, former Vikings defensive tackle, Sharrif Floyd, will start Tuesday a $ 180 million lawsuit against Dr. James Andrews and others, in order to recover the lost earnings of the NFL after the end of his playing career after an operation in September 2016.

Floyd's lawsuit claims to have sustained permanent muscle and nerve damage following arthroscopic knee surgery on Sept. 22, 2016, at the Andrews Institute in Pensacola, Florida. The operation was carried out by Andrews.
The complaint alleges that an anti-pain was administered negligently in Floyd's nerve, which resulted in "a significant loss of knee musculature function," Sohn said on the phone Monday night. Floyd claims more than $ 180 million in damages depending on what the NFL's leading defensive strikers should earn over the course of their careers.
"We have expert witnesses to testify what his NFL earnings would have been," Sohn said.
After the operation, the Vikings placed Floyd on the list of non-football related injuries, which allowed the team to pay only part of an option of $ 6.7 million for the final year of his rookie contract in 2017. Floyd, who had received just over $ 2 million in 2017 salary, has filed a grievance that remains outstanding, according to NFLPA records.
According to Sohn, the Vikings are not the defendants of the trial, but added that members of the medical staff of the team could be dismissed if the trial resulted in a trial.
The Vikings selected Floyd with the 23rd overall pick in 2013 at the University of Florida.
