Treasure Island, the family-owned grocery chain founded in Chicago in 1963, is currently closing its other six sites in the city and Wilmette.
The company closed its Lincoln Park store on Clybourn Avenue on September 10th. At the time, Treasure Island President Christ Kamberos Jr. said Treasure Island offered "continued employment to almost all employees" who agreed to transfer stores.
Today, the family has confirmed to its 700 or so employees that all sites will be fired and that employees will lose their jobs.
"As you have recently discovered, we made the very difficult decision to downsize operations as a company," wrote Maria Kamberos, CEO of Treasure Island, in a note to workers obtained by Crain & # 39; s. "Unfortunately, given the current conditions of the sector, we have been unable to continue operating without losing money.
The "Everything Must Go" panels are currently on the company's location at Elm and Clark Streets on the Gold Coast. An employee stated that the last day would be October 12th.
Calls to Treasure Island headquarters and the extension of Maria Kamberos have not been answered.
The grocer was ranked 330th on the 2018 list of Chicago's largest private companies by Crain, with an estimated business turnover of $ 99 million.
