In height, it reaches 6 meters.
In the United States, New Mexico, paleontologists have found a new parent of the Tyrannosaurus Rex. To determine the group and apply this individual's family, they created bone and skull patterns of fragments found using 3D scanning and printing. A study published in PeerJ magazine.
American paleontologists Andrew MacDonald and Douglas Wolfe in search of dinosaur bones uncovered on the territory of New Mexico during the formation of Minefi. There they found relatively well preserved bones of a dinosaur that lived about 78 million years ago. A new species almost immediately attributed to Tyrannosauridae is a large bipedal dinosaur of the suborder Theropoda. However, because the fragments are clearly different from the bones of other members of this family, the scientists understood that he had discovered a new species. It was called Dynamoterror dynas (Dynamis – power, lat Terror – fear, terror, lat Dynasts – ruler).
Paleontologists have used 3D scanning technology to determine the appearance of bones. Before its use, to confirm the classification of the fossil, the scientists went for weeks. Now, the scanning of the fragments, the creation of models and their printing took only three days. The resulting 3D images can be viewed on Sketchfab.
For MacDonald and Wolfe Dynamoterror dynastes – is the second described species of dinosaurs from the Minefi Formation in the state of New Mexico. In August 2017, they opened Invictarx zephyri, which belonged to the family of nodosaurs – a herbivorous dinosaur with bone plate armor. The remains of this species have been scanned and posted on the Web.
Theropods – bipedal dinosaurs, most of which are predators. The most famous species of this suborder – the Tyrannosaurus rex – was opened in 1905 in the United States. In height, it reached 6 meters long – 13.5 m and weighed about nine tons. Recently, scientists have attributed to theropods and modern birds. The formation of Minefi was formed in the Mesozoic era (about 66 to 250 million years ago). It was part of the island continent Laramide, the western region of the ancient continent which, as a result of geological processes, became a modern North America.
