(Reuters) – Four men were shot dead following a brawl between two families at a birthday party for a 1-year-old Texas child, officials said. ;State.

A 37-year-old man is believed to have fired five men with a handgun early Saturday night in the courtyard of a house in the small town of Taft, north of Corpus Christi, said Sgt. Nathan Brandley of the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Police were looking for the suspect, Ronnie Rodriguez Sr., on Sunday and also arrested his son, Ronnie Rodriguez Jr., 20, in connection with the shooting, Brandley said.

It was not clear if any children were in the yard at the time, said Brandley, but preliminary information revealed that most of them were inside. of the House. He did not say how many children attended the party.

The fifth gunman was transported by helicopter to a Corpus Christi hospital where he was listed Sunday in critical but stable condition, Brandley said.

Brandley did not motivate the shooting, except to say that there had been an altercation between members of two families.

Taft is 12 miles north of Corpus Christi, Texas.
