It started like so many interviews with Fox & Friends: sit down with a prominent Republican, let him hear some talking points, cast some shadow over the opposition, a laugh here, a laugh present. Just a few pals who chew fat.
But on Tuesday, when the conversation with Lindsey Graham turned to Senator Elizabeth Warren and her DNA test, things became weird.
"I'm going to do a DNA test," he said, adding that he had been informed that his grandmother was part of the Cherokee Indian population. "The results will be revealed here. It's my Trump moment, it's reality TV. "
In reference to Warren: "It is less than one-tenth of a percent. I think I can beat her. Strange, a little silly, but it does not matter.
Then he dropped that zinger:
"I will probably be Iranian, it would be terrible.
At that time, host Brian Kilmeade apparently perceived the dubious nature of Graham's commentary and tried to come to the rescue by saying, "Well, they have great people, just bad leaders."
Graham's answer: "Bad leaders. I am not in the branch of the ayatollah.
Iranian Twitter was quick to answer:
