A New Zealand fisherman who confused a child drowning with a doll was commended for saving the child's life.
Last week, Gus Hutt threw a queue on Matata Beach, on the North Island, when he saw what he thought was a porcelain doll in the # 39; water.
Curious, Hutt dragged the body of the sea where he was swept by a tear and realized that it was actually an 18-month-old boy drowning.
Hutt was generally fishing in another part of the beach and it was fortunate that he was in the right place to see the child just after sunrise.
"I reached out my hand and grabbed it by the arm. even then, I still thought it was only a doll, "Hutt told Whakatane Beacon, a local newspaper.
"His face looked like porcelain with his short hair wet, but then he let out a little cry and I said to myself," Oh my God, he's a baby and he's alive. "
"If I was not there, or if I had just done it a minute later, I would not have seen it … he was lucky, but he was not supposed to go. It was not his time.

The boy had moved away from his parents' camp early in the morning and was not suspected of being in the water for long. Her parents were awakened by Hutt's wife who asked them if they had a baby and said that her husband had found a child in the sea.
It is thought that the toddler opened the tent while his parents were sleeping and headed to the beach, where his steps were found in the ocean, about 15 meters from where Hutt had seen it.
"He did not spend a lot of time in the water. I just have to see him come in, says Hutt.
The child's mother, Jessica Whyte, screamed when she realized that her baby was gone and told Stuff that she did not think her heart was tired by the time she learned that her son had been found in the water.
Rebecca Salter, co-owner of the holiday camp where the boy's family was staying, told the BBC that this incident was a "whimsical miracle".
"It was a shock for everyone. It was a very, very happy result … maybe it was a tragic accident. "
The child was first treated by the local emergency services before being transported by ambulance to Whakatane Hospital. The police briefly witnessed the scene but said she took no further action.
Hutt said the child had quickly recovered even though he and his wife were still shaken by the incident.
"He was squirming trying to look at everything, he was just a charming little cheeky guy."
