The Jersey City Medical Center will host a free community screening event today for National HIV Testing Day.
National HIV Testing Day is an annual awareness campaign that invites people to learn about their HIV status.
The event will take place from 14:00 to 18:00. at the new town hall annex, 360 Martin Luther King Drive.
Free HIV tests, HEP C tests, syphilis and blood glucose tests will be available on site. Free lunches and gifts will also be offered to participants.
JCMC is the official provider for all HIV testing and other health exams at this year's event. Last year, JCMC tested about 150 people.
The JCMC provides health and support services to HIV patients as part of its Center for Comprehensive Care program at the Jersey City Medical Center in Greenville, located at 1825 John F. Kennedy Blvd.
The school offers free confidential HIV rapid testing and STD testing for people over 13 years old.
"Everyone needs to get tested, knowing your status is half the battle," said Whitney Bracco, director of operations at Jersey City Medical Center in Greenville.
