While cold weather invites in the Baton Rouge area, weather and fire officials warn residents of how to safely prepare for the cold. According to FEMA, the heating equipment is involved in a fire in one in seven homes and one in five deaths in a home, so many agencies recommend a series of security checks around homes in Louisiana.
