Friends and family members gathered on Saturday to remember Wendy Martinez, the woman who was stabbed to death in Washington, DC, while she was jogging in a seemingly random attack.
The service was held at the Miracle Theater, just one mile from the US Capitol building.
Martinez, 35, was stabbed Tuesday night in a so-called "unprovoked" attack in the Logan Square neighborhood. She was engaged to her boyfriend, Danny Hincapie, just a week ago.
She stumbled into a local Chinese restaurant after the police claimed to have been stabbed seven times. Restaurant patrons called 911 and tried to stop the bleeding, but Martinez died at the Medstar Washington Hospital Center.
Anthony Crawford, 23, was charged with first degree murder when he was stabbed.
"It's a gift to discover the memories and at the same time, it's sad," said Kristina Moore, a friend of Martinez, at WJLA, an affiliate of Washington ABC.
"We are relieved," said Moore. "There are still open questions."
Martinez's mother, Cora Martinez, said last week that her daughter was the "most beautiful, the most special and the most dynamic girl".
Cora Martinez said her daughter would be buried in her wedding dress, which she chose the weekend before her death. Services will be held at the Christ Fellowship Church in Royal Palm Beach, Florida on Tuesday.
A commemorative fund raised more than $ 15,000 online donations.
