The man responsible for a racist social media message that Willie Taggart was lynched was fired from his job at Hilton Grand Vacations, the company said in a statement Monday.

"Our concern about this situation is a top priority," said Lauren George, spokesperson for Hilton Grand Vacations, about the unidentified employee. "The person responsible for publishing this information was fired, his behavior contravened the company's multiple rules, and the latest example reflected the company's values."

The racist post was made in a The Florida State fan group on Facebook Saturday, shortly after the Seminoles lost their Florida rivals 41-14 to finish a 5-7 season. Taggart's head was engraved on an image of a man being lynched with the words "Believe in something even if one had to sacrifice your representative", alluding to the recent advertising campaign Nike featuring Colin Kaepernick.

The meme became viral after the man posted it in the comments section of the fan group page. Florida State President John Thrasher condemned this article on Sunday, calling it "ignorant and despicable". The Florida prosecutor of the second judicial circuit is conducting an investigation.

Taggart, the first black football head coach in Florida history, was hired last December in Oregon. The state of Florida has recorded the first losing season of the school since 1976 and has failed to qualify for a petanque game for the first time since 1981.
