Funeral projects were announced Friday for a North Carolina soldier who was shot dead during a roadside check in Columbus County.

Kevin K. Conner, a 11-year-old veteran of the 11-year-old State Highway Patrol, was shot dead Wednesday morning just south of the city of Whiteville in eastern North Carolina. The suspect, Raheem Cole Dashanell Davis, 20, of Chadbourn, was charged with first degree murder, according to a press release from the State Highway Patrol.

Conner, 38, was married and had two children aged 5 and 11, according to her obituary.

Services are scheduled for Sunday at South Columbus High School, 40 Stallion Drive, in Tabor City, according to a press release from the State Highway Patrol released Friday.

Anyone wishing to attend the meeting must follow the bulletin boards on the US 701 at school to park.

"Conner's body must arrive through the North Carolina Troopers Association's crate unit" around noon in the school's auditorium, according to the patrol's press release.

The visits will take place from 13h to 16h. in the auditorium, immediately after the funeral service, also in the auditorium.

"Availability is based on a first-come-first-served basis, with the exception of family seats, first responders, and special guests," according to the patrol press release.

An outdoor ceremony is planned next to the auditorium in place of a public memorial located next to a grave, said the patrol. A private memorial service at the tomb reserved for family and close friends will follow the funeral.
