Game Recap – Public Betters Win Big On Vikings, Chiefs, Steelers and More in Las Vegas Week 9 Historically Bad

Notable Raises is a regular Monday collection – some more accurate than others – done recently in the country's sportsbook.

For nearly a decade, I've been writing weekly reports on Las Vegas sports betting performance on NFL Sundays.

As the late afternoon games come to an end, I call, send an e-mail and send an SMS to a dozen bookmakers in different casinos in the city. I ask them how they managed that day, what were the best and worst results for the house, as well as other general issues about wagers in their store.

It had been a long time since bookmakers did not sound like Sunday night anymore.

"I'm going to have to explain it to the boss tomorrow," said a Vegas veteran Sunday night.

Normally, there is a lot of slight hyperbole that appears in the calls. They do not really like how much they have won or lost, and certainly do not share official data to verify their claims.

Many guys are funny and play the role of bookmaker. When they win big, they often temper the tone of their responses in hopes of being good winners. "People have lost a lot of money today," I told a bookmaker after week 1 of the 2014 season, which was at the time the most lucrative Sunday of its career in the NFL. "We do not want to rub it."

When they lose big, they speak in more direct terms:

"Disaster."

"Bloodbath."

"Crushed."

I never complain, but society, especially social media, does not seem to have much sympathy for the bookmaker.

Over the years, some bookmakers have endorsed it. I am sure that some of them have downplayed the importance of a day or embellished the severity of their losses. However, over the past decade, consensual results from weekly calls generally end up in line with Nevada Gaming Control's monthly earnings reports.

If it holds last week, bookmakers are starting to cost a lot in November.

"Today 's results are far from ideal," said a sports betting manager at Caesars Palace in an email. "I do not know exactly where this will fall on our list all the time, but it's one of the worst Sundays in the NFL I can remember."

The bookmakers' descriptions of this Sunday night are the worst I can remember since the 9th week of the 2012 season, when the favorites were 10-2 against the spread and split Las Vegas. The quotes were also spectacular after this week: "I've been in this business for 26 years and I've never seen what I saw yesterday," SuperBook Director Jay Kornegay told ESPN after this week.

Nevada pounds lost more than $ 5 million on football in November, a huge share of week 9. Industry sources estimated that they had lost between $ 7 and $ 10 million this Sunday only (week 9, by the way).

Do not worry too much, though. Sports betting will succeed and should accept bets on this week's football matches. After all, they earned an average of $ 10 million a week in September, the most lucrative month of all time for sports betting.

Here are the notable bets of the week that destroyed Vegas:

NFL

• In the most important decisions of the day, the books ultimately required Detroit Lions outsiders and Cleveland Browns and Baltimore's favorite Ravens. They lost them all. "We won a key decision today," said Jeff Davis, sports book manager at Caesars Palace.

• "The Chiefs were the big loser of the day for us," said Jay Rood, vice president of MGM's racing and sports division. "The shards continued to bet a little on the Browns, but the audience kept coming on the Chiefs.Everyone repeated that he thought the line would be at 9 or 10 points. 39, was the Black Friday of the Chiefs. "

• A bettor at a MGM sports betting event in Nevada placed Saturday $ 110,000 on the Kansas City Chiefs -8,5 and the Washington Redskins and a $ 100,000 bet on the New England Patriots -6 tied, according to Sports betting director Scott Shelton. The Chiefs and Patriots have covered the gap in wins over the Browns and Green Bay Packers, respectively. Washington has failed to cover a loss to Atlanta Falcons.

• A BetStars New Jersey sportsbook bettor lost $ 8.68 on an 11-team NFL game, which turned into a $ 10,920 boon when the Patriots opposed Packers Sunday night. The other 10 parlay stages: Bears -10, Panthers -6, Chiefs -8, Falcons-Redskins over 47, Rams-Saints over 57, Steelers-Ravens under 46, Dolphins -3, Texans -1 and Chargers-Seahawks minus 48. The chance on the 11 strikes was 1.259-1.

• "The handle was pretty strong today," Rood said. "We had a big convention, a lot of car guys.We have received a lot of public money this week, and I've always said, the public is where we can be hurt at worst."

• South Point said, not to mention the tight Jets-Dolphins bet, it was 0-6 in the first few games. "Bad day today," Tim Fitzgerald, director of sports betting at South Point, said in an email. "The worst Sunday of the year, by far."

• A SuperBook bettor at Westgate Las Vegas placed $ 22,000 on Tom Brady for more than 2.5 touchdowns against the Packers in Sunday night's game. Brady finished with a touchdown pass.

• A SuperBook bettor placed a $ 20,000 bet on the Tennessee Titans, scoring more than 17 points in Monday night's game against the Dallas Cowboys.

• "We are already very ugly [Monday’s] play too, "said Rood Sunday afternoon. We need Dallas. Many parlays and some big bets are tied to the Titans. "The Cowboys are the 4.5-point favorites on the Titans in the Monday night game.

• A bettor who has a total bet win of $ 1,000 for the season at odds of -1.20 on the Buffalo Bills winning less than 6.5 games chose to sell the bet at $ 1,650 last week on PropSwap, an online secondary market for betting tickets. Barring a dramatic turnaround of the second-period Bills, the new owner of the Wynn Las Vegas betting ticket will be able to reap $ 1,833.35 at the end of the regular season. The Bills fell to 2-7 with a 41-9 loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday.

• The Seattle Seahawks started as outsiders with a 9.5-point margin against the Los Angeles Rams in the 10th week of the SuperBook, and the line was quickly set at -10. This line would be the most outsider of his career, Russell Wilson (his previous record was +7.5 four times).

University football

• Alabama has improved to 9-0 against the gap in the first half of this season, a trend more and more popular with bettors. The Crimson Tide, who was the favorite of 7.5 points over LSU in the first half, took a 16-0 lead at halftime. "There was once again a flood of bets on Alabama in the first half against LSU," SuperBook manager John Murray told ESPN in an email. "And again, the bettors were rewarded for that one – we actually had more tickets on LSU for the game itself, but we suffered a defeat in the first period."

• The SuperBook recorded a line and opened bets on a possible national championship game between Alabama and Clemson. The Crimson Tide opened Sunday as a 8.5-point favorite. A bettor immediately placed a $ 1,000 bet on Clemson.

• The SuperBook has republished a line for the end-of-season show between Michigan and Ohio State. The Wolverines are now the favorites of the road at 3.5 points over the Buckeyes. In September, the line posted on the game was Ohio State -9.5.

• Washington State did not cover the gap for the first time this season in a 19-13 win over California. Cougars were the favorites of 7.5 points. Washington State has covered the gap in its first eight games of the season, becoming the eighth team in the last 40 seasons to do so. Only four teams have covered the gap in their first nine consecutive games.

• Ed Salmons, head of sports betting at SuperBook, said his rough numbers would have Alabama a favorite of 6.5 or 7 points. "At this point, for me, you just want to go higher, just because Alabama has such a sequel right now," Salmons said. "No team has even shown that she could compete with them." Clearly, Clemson is the second-best team in the country, and they've done it in the past. Alabama has never had a quarterback like this before. "

• The top four teams in the Salmons Power Rank:

1. Alabama
2. Clemson
3. Michigan
4. Oklahoma

• "If Michigan and Notre Dame play again, I would probably Michigan at -4.5," Salmons said.

• "We really paid our fees [Saturday]"Salmons said.

Bouts

• Baseball: The Hollywood Casino of Charles Town, West Virginia has committed $ 550,000 early in the season for the baseball season of next year. Erich Zimny, a Hollywood executive, told ESPN that a punter was placing a $ 20,000 bet on the The Washington Nationals will win the National League at 11-1 and a $ 15,000 bet on the Nationals to win the World Series at 22-1.

• Nevada sports betting numbers: September was the worst month for Nevada football bettors. Of the record $ 56.3 million in sports betting in September, $ 44.3 million came from football (NFL and university). It's the football record in a month. The books held 11.40% of the money wagered on football. The average holding percentage is 5.5%.
