PENNSVILLE, N.J. – A gas leak blocked the Delaware Memorial Bridge in both directions.
The Delaware River and the Bay Authority have tweeted that the leak came from a chemical production facility located near the two suspension bridges, which is an important link between Washington and New York.
According to the Delaware Department of Transportation, the facility is located on the Delaware side. The Division of Natural Resources and Environmental Control of the State is on site.
The authority tweeted that he is waiting for a response from the factory on the bridge closing time. The leak occurred around 17 hours. Sunday and the factory operators have requested closure.
Traffic is diverted from Interstate 295 to another crossing.
