DAVIE, Fla. (AP) – Adam Gase, coach of the Miami Dolphins, will spend a good part of the weekend watching movies.
It was not exactly the way he described the task on Friday, but his study of the team's last games will not be very fun.
After a 3-0 start, the Dolphins (4-4) reversed their course and gained momentum in the wrong direction. They were outclassed 167-99 when they lost four of their last five games, including 42-23 Thursday in Houston.
Their next game is Nov. 4 at home against the New York Jets. This gives Gase plenty of time to evaluate and solve a myriad of problems.
"I would like to say that I'm really going to see my kids this weekend," said Gase, who has three young children. "But when we give up the number of points we've surrendered and we play as badly as we did in defense, and we have a lot of things to clean up in attack, I'll probably spend most of my time working on all that. . "
The Dolphins have played in the last three games without injured quarterback Ryan Tannehill, whose status for next week is uncertain. And it's not even close to their biggest problem.
The defense was awful three weeks in a row. Over this period, Miami allowed 200 yards per game and 5.9 per run. In the same sequence, quarterbacks collected 751 yards with 10 touchdowns, one interception and a score of 143.9.
One questions the job security of the defensive coordinator for the second year, Matt Burke, but Gase said he was not inclined to blame his assistant.

And their performance speaks volumes. Cameron Wake, five-time Pro Bowl defenseman, said the wide-open receivers and the gaping holes for the halfbacks make it clear that missed assignments are the main problem.
"I'm going to give you some advice: there is no defense of children's football, high school, college where players are discovered," Wake said. "There is no defense where gaps are not filled. So, whenever you see this, that a guy runs in space or that a receiver is free, an error is made somewhere. In attack, the prospects are less gloomy. Substitute quarterback Brock Osweiler had his worst game in Houston, but Tannehill is about to start a throwing program to test his right shoulder injury, Gase said.
Tannehill has not been ruled out of the Jets game, but his rehabilitation will be cautious, and he is more likely to return after the start of the 11th week.
"I want to be sure not to put him in a situation where he has some sort of relapse and starts over again," said Gase.
Tannehill can not help the defense anyway. This unit ranks last in the NFL in yards and yards, and the bag-per-game rate is the second-worst.
The Dolphins are tied at the top of the league with 11 interceptions, but this source of success has dried up recently, and they have nothing to gain in the last two games.
In short, the problem is a team effort.
