The family was at home in the living room when the tree landed on the house, family members said.
"He was not reacting," said Olen Gill. "As I approached the room, I saw them pumping on his chest, and this time I knew it was not good."
Olen Gill said his wife Tammy Gill was holding Kade on the couch when they were hit by the tree.
"The tree had divided us," said Olen Gill. "I'm in the kitchen and she's in the living room on the couch."
Kade's parents told Channel 9 that he was three months old on Sunday.
"He was a fighter at first, he came five weeks earlier, survived the 10 days of the NICU," said Tammy Gill.
Tammy Gill said that they were closely monitoring the conditions and their environment.
"We were observing the trees in the back that are sloping, but I guess all the time we looked bad."
Officials said the house was totaled.
"They walked into the room and said that he was suffering from head trauma and we did not even know it," said Tammy Gill. "They had been doing CPR for the last 30 minutes and they just wanted permission to stop, I first said no, but after 30 minutes he would not come back."
