TORONTO (Reuters) – General Motors Co (GM.Nplans to close all its operations in a plant near Toronto and an announcement is expected Monday, reported Sunday a local television channel
Citing several sources, CTV News reported that the closure of the Oshawa plant in Ontario would affect "thousands" of high-paying jobs. GM builds sedans on one assembly line and pickup trucks on another. The closure of the plant is part of the global restructuring, the report added.
A GM spokesman based in Canada declined to comment.
GM employs approximately 2,500 unionized employees and approximately 300 salaried employees in the Oshawa area. The US manufacturer has other facilities in Canada, including a plant in Ingersoll, Ontario, where it assembles the Chevrolet Equinox.
