Geoff Emerick, a sound engineer known for his work with the Beatles, is dead, Rolling stone reports. His agent confirmed that he had a heart attack. He was 72 years old.
Emerick was a sound engineer who worked with EMI with various groups. His debut album with the Beatles as chief engineer, under the direction of producer George Martin, was Revolverand his first song that he helped cut was "Tomorrow Never Knows". He continued to work with the band on their next albums. Sgt. Pepper 's Lonely Hearts Club Band, The Beatles (White album), and Abbey Road. Emerick has also worked on several Paul McCartney albums, including Strip on the run. His other credits include Zombies' Odessa and Oracle, Elvis Costello's Imperial Chamberand records from Kate Bush, Tim Hardin, Chris Trick, Badbinger, Supertramp and more.
Emerick won a Grammy for his work on Abbey Road, Sgt. peppers, and Strip on the run. In 2006, he published his memoirs Here, there and everywhere: my life records Beatles music.
