DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – George Anthony, whose daughter, Casey Anthony, was tried and found not guilty for the murder of his daughter, Caylee, was seriously injured in an accident on I-4.

The Florida Highway Patrol reported that George Anthony left I-4 heading west to Daytona Beach and overturned his wife Cindy's 2004 Toyota 4-Runner on Saturday at around 3pm.

A witness told the FHP that Anthony had left the right shoulder a few kilometers before the exit for the SR-44, soldiers said. Anthony tried to get back on the road before losing control of his control and overturning several times, passing right, center and left lanes before coming to a stop at the middle shoulder, said FHP.

George Anthony, 67, suffered "disabling" injuries, FHP said. He was airlifted to the Halifax Medical Center.

According to FHP, Anthony's vehicle was the only one involved in the accident. Anthony was also the only person on board the vehicle at the time, according to soldiers.

A FHP report said that the reason Anthony left the highway was unclear, although he was not distracted and his vision was not obscured. The FHP report stated that Anthony did not remember what had happened in the moments before the collision.

George Anthony and his wife, Cindy, were thrown into the limelight nationally a decade ago when Orlando's granddaughter, Caylee, disappeared. The 3-year-old girl, who was living with her mother and grandparents, was last seen in June 2008. Cindy Anthony reported her disappearance a month later.

The couple's daughter, Casey, was arrested and suspected of being neglected. She told the police that a babysitter had taken the child.

In December 2008, a utility worker found the remains of Caylee near Chickasaw Trail, not far from where the Anthony lives.

Casey Anthony then claimed that his daughter drowned the day of his disappearance.

In 2011, after a highly publicized lawsuit that drew worldwide attention to a courtroom in Orlando, a jury declared Casey Anthony not guilty of his daughter's death. The jurors, however, sentenced him for lying to the police.

Casey Anthony lives in Palm Beach, Florida, and sometimes talks to his mother, but has no contact with his father, according to reported information.
