The saga of the iron throne is coming to an end slowly, but the next book of A song of ice and fire, Winter Winds, is still just a glimmer in the eyes of fans who have been suffering for a long time.

In a recent interview with The Guardian, George RR Martin spoke frankly about the challenge of creating his latest novel and why additional works like Fire and blood have gone out before her.

"I have been struggling with this for a few years," he said, a fact that all fans are familiar with. "Winter Winds It's not really a novel, but a dozen novels, each with a different protagonist, each with a different cast of supportive players, antagonists, allies and lovers around them, and all woven together in an extremely complex way. So it's very, very difficult. Fire and blood on the other hand was very simple. It's not easy, it took me years to assemble, but it's easier.

It may be frustrating for many fans, but it makes sense: to draw as Martin's is as much a choreography as creativity and, at one point, it is a gigantic enterprise. Assembling all this, especially without the help of the writer 's room, must be incredibly difficult. Creative work is, well, a job, and it's nice to see Martin talk about it frankly, although he's probably never been under more pressure.

This interview was also more fun, including clarifying the process behind Fire and blood and the revelation that Martin is working with HBO on some other projects on which he can not share anything for the moment.

We do not know when Winter Winds will go out but Game of thrones will be back on television next year.
