ATHENS, GA. – It seemed for a moment that it could be one of those nights for Auburn's defense.

Georgia walked the field in each of her first two races at her stadium. He scored the first goal of 2's and 10's and 4's for the second goal (thanks to a targeted penalty against defenseman Auburn Big Kat Bryant.

The Tigers held the Bulldogs out of the end zone and attempted to score on the field with both possessions. The visitors had a four-point lead in the middle of the second quarter. Maybe the defense would do just enough on the way to Sanford Stadium.

This is not the case. The first successes were short-lived and the offensive did not help much. Auburn could not hold as long as in a 27-10 loss to Georgia 5.

This is the sixth consecutive loss of the Tigers in Athens since 2005.

"It's really frustrating," said Jeremiah Dinson, Junior Safety Officer. "I will not lie."

The dam broke out in the third possession of Georgia. Jake Fromm drove the Bulldogs into the red zone, which seems to be exactly what the Tigers wanted, but this time they could not limit the home team to three – the quarterback hit Tyler Simmons for a score of 14 yards from Noah Igbinoghene cornerback.

This gave Georgia a 13-10 lead late in the second quarter. Auburn, who had scored for two possessions in a row – an obvious half-yellow Whitlow pass to John Samuel Shenker and a 27-yard goal from Anders Carlson – scored three goals and a goal in the following goal, the fourth Jarrett Stidham missing Whitlow on a backpass third and second. This proved to be expensive.

The Bulldogs took over with two minutes left in the half and left the midfield through D'Andre Swift's 24-yard run. In the fourth and second innings of the Auburn 38 with 29 seconds to go in the half, Fromm hit Terry Godwin on a short tilt over center, and the senior catcher put 38 yards into the end zone to give the Advance to his team at 20 – 10 at halftime.

"We were under pressure. We had to play in this situation and play the game, "linebacker Deshaun Davis. "If you do not play this game, at least bring the guy on the field. We did not do one or the other. We did not run. "

Swift won with a 77-yard touchdown in the first minutes of the fourth quarter and, to add insult to injury, the Bulldogs attempted (and failed) to convert a false goal on the 17-yard field. points with 3:20 to play. .

All in all, Georgia scored on its four orders in the first half and, after a third quarter without scoring, its first to fourth. Jamel Dean had a Fromm interception in the third quarter, but it was one of the few highlights: the Tigers finished the game with only five tackles for defeat and two sacks.

"It felt like it was going to be a turning point," said Daniel Thomas of Dean's interception. This was not the case.

The Bulldogs totaled 516 yards, making it the first team to beat Kevin Steele's 500-man mark since Baker Mayfield and Oklahoma earned 524 points in the 2016 Sugar Bowl.

Auburn has now yielded more than 420 yards in three consecutive games and at least 390 in each of the last five games. Most of Georgia's damage came on the ground, where Swift's 186-yard drift of 17 carries the 303-yard quick attack.

This is the second time the Tigers have yielded more than 300 rushing yards in a game this season. The first goal is a 23-9 loss to the Mississippi State on October 7th. The last time this happened was in 2012.

"They did a good job, and we did not do a very good job with our sleeves," said head coach Gus Malzahn. "They had this big race and had other tracks. We did not play well in all three phases. "

The Auburn offense certainly did not reduce the pressure on this unit, scoring zero points on its last seven discs after scoring 10 points on the scoreboard in the first three. But no one on the defense will say that the unit has met the high standard it has set, especially after allowing the Bulldogs to convert 8 of the 14 third tries.

Things are not going to get any easier for the defense: after a home visit with Liberty next week, the Tigers have to go to the Tuscaloosa road for an appointment with Tua Tagovailoa and the Crimson Tide, ranked n ° 1.

"We just have to be stuck and know what we have to do, and every guy needs to know what he has to do in times of crisis," Dinson said. "It can not be a no," I thought. "You must know when the moment is critical and we will improve, we will be better."
