Porsche's chief executive said the sports car maker would not produce any new diesel models following Volkswagen's diesel emissions scandal.

CEO Oliver Blume told Bild am Sonntag newspaper on Sunday that, although Porsche itself has never developed and produced diesel engines, its image has suffered from the scandal that erupted in 2015.

He said the company wanted to focus on "what we could do particularly well," citing high-performance gasoline models, hybrid vehicles and electric cars starting next year.

Blume added: "It also means there will be more Porsche diesel engines in the future."

He said that Porsche had no diesel in its lineup since February and that the "test phase" showed that many diesel drivers are ready to switch to gasoline or hybrid cars.
